Have you ever gone to a website where you wanted to look for more information and the website asked you to register by providing your email address? Have you ever wanted to subscribe to forums or newsletters but you were afraid to do so because you needed to fill in your email address? To avoid getting spam emails and being able to register, you can use a disposable email address.

There are some websites providing disposable email addresses. The easiest way to get one is through the Firefox Add-on TrashMail.net and the created email addresses can be deleted at any time!

After you download and install it, just right-click an email text field in Firefox. A menu will appear with the option to paste a disposable email address. See this picture for an example:

After you select the option “Paste disposable address”, you will be asked to provide some information for the disposable address:

After you fill in this dialog and click the Create email button, your new disposable email address is ready for you to use.

Most people do their Internet searches by using Google because it has the largest search engine on the Internet and is fast to find what they are looking for.

Going to the Google website directly to do the searches is not convenient because it takes too much time to type “www.google.com” on the Address bar. Even though you have bookmarked the Google website, going there is still one click away.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you can just open a browser, type what you are looking for and then press Enter to get what you are looking for? Yes, you can do so if you download .

Google Toolbar looks like

Besides that nice feature, other great features are:

  • Custom buttons
You can add buttons to your Toolbar that will let you visit and search your favorite websites and keep up with interesting feeds.
  • Send To
You can use your Google Toolbar to share web pages via email, text message (SMS), or blog.
  • Google Docs & Spreadsheets
You can open most popular document files right in your browser when the Google Docs & Spreadsheets feature is enabled in the Google Toolbar.
  • Bookmarks
You can access bookmarks created from any computers. You will need to have a Google Account and be signed in to create and access your bookmarks because they will be stored in your account online.
  • Google Account Sign-in
Your Google Account is your access point for Google services like Personalized Homepage, Google Groups and Gmail - and now you can sign in and out right from your Toolbar.
  • Enhanced Search Box
As you type a search query into the new Toolbar’s search box, you’ll see a list of useful suggestions based on popular Google searches, spelling corrections and your own Toolbar search history and bookmarks.
  • Google Safe Browsing
Google Safe Browsing alerts you if a web page that you visit appears to be asking for your personal or financial information under false pretences. This type of attack, known as phishing or spoofing, is becoming more sophisticated, widespread and dangerous.
  • AutoFill
AutoFill makes shopping a breeze by enabling you to fill out web forms with a single click.
  • WordTranslator
You can hover your mouse cursor over an English word and Toolbar’s WordTranslator will tell you what it means in your own language.
  • Subscribe to Feed
You can now subscribe to your favorite web pages with just one click on the toolbar button.
  • Send with Gmail
You can go straight to Gmail whenever you click on an email link.
  • Custom Layouts
The Firefox version of Toolbar has made it easy to put your favorite Toolbar features right where you want them.
  • AutoLink
When you see a US address without a link to a map in a web page, you can click the Toolbar’s AutoLink button to automatically create a link to an online US map. AutoLink can also link package tracking numbers to delivery status, VIN numbers (US) to vehicle history, and publication ISBN numbers to Amazon.com listings
  • SpellCheck
This feature finds any spelling mistakes whenever you type into a web form, including web-based email, discussion forums, and even intranet web applications. The AutoFix option even corrects all of your text with a single click.
  • PageRank Display
You can use this feature to find out how Google assesses the importance of the page you are viewing.
  • Highlight Search Terms
You can type some words in the Toolbar’s search box and then click the Highlight Search Terms button. All of the words in the search box will be highlighted on the web page. This feature makes it very easy to find relevant information.
  • Word Find Buttons
You can type some words in the Toolbar’s search box and then click a Word Find Button which lets you jump to the first instance of the word. Clicking it again let you find the next occurrence of the word.

My Favorite Firefox Add-ons

Firefox is very popular because it is fast and secure. Also, it is an open source project where thousands of independent programmers can work on finding security holes before they are exploited.

Even though Internet Explorer comes integrated with Windows, Firefox is almost half the size of Internet Explorer. So, downloading it is faster than downloading Internet Explorer. Besides, a typical web page will get loaded faster on Firefox than Internet Explorer.

Another thing that I like Firefox more than Internet Explorer is that it is customizable by using Firefox Add-ons.

This is the list of add-ons that I like the most:

  • Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer
You just need to install Foxmarks on each of your computers, and it will work silently in the background to keep your bookmarks synchronized.
  • ScribeFire
ScribeFire (previously known as Performancing for Firefox) is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog.
  • All-in-One Sidebar
It lets you quickly switch between sidebar panels, view dialog windows such as downloads, extensions, and more in the sidebar, or view source or websites in the sidebar.
  • Google Calendar Notifier
It notifies you the events from your Google Calendar.
  • Google Reader Notifier
It shows you how many unread items you have in your Google Reader account.
  • WebMail Notifier
It checks your webmail accounts and notifies the number of unread emails. It supports gmail, yahoo mail, hotmail, daum, naver, empas, nate and more. You can use multiple accounts in the same host.
  • FasterFox
It is a performance and network tweaks for Firefox. I really like it because it makes Firefox run much faster.
  • Google Toolbar
It adds a Google toolbar to Firefox. If you search through Google a lot, you must install it.
  • FireFTP
It turns Firefox into a FTP Client.
  • GMail Space
It acts as an online drive, so you can upload files from your hard drive and access them from every Internet capable system. The interface will make your Gmail account look like a FTP host.
  • FireBug
It integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.
  • IE Tab
I use Firefox almost all of the time. However, when I need to test new pages or view those rare but interesting IE-only pages, I find this add-on very useful and convenient because I can see what these pages look like in IE.

The above list is just my favorite add-ons. If you are using some add-ons that are not in the above list and you find them useful, please leave a comment to share them with us. Thank you.
